Short Story - Tale of a Kingdom

This is a short story I wrote which is recited by a wise old man to his grandsons to try and keep them from fighting with one-another. Hope you all enjoy the tale and watch out for the twist at the end.   There was once a man who lived with his four grandsons in a land long forgotten. His grandsons were young and always quarrelled with one-another. One day, he got tired of their constant bickering and thought of a way to put an end to it. He sat them down and told them a tale, a tale of a kingdom.  "There once was a king of a land long forgotten. He had four sons who were always quarrelling with one-another. He always hoped that they would rule the land together and save the land from invaders. Alas! On the day he died, the land was divided and the brothers took their own separate kingdoms. The people were saddened by the partition of the land but nevertheless, obeyed their kings' command. "A few months later, news reached the brothers, that the eldest of them all is prep...

Short Story - A day in the World.

This is a short story about a young boy who, after a fight with his parents, runs away from home and experiences the harshness of the world. This story is purely hypothetical and based on my imagination. Any relation to such incidents is entirely coincidental.  "I don't want to! You can't force me!" Shouted Alan at his parents. "Yes we can, now go!" His father ordered. "I am going!" Alan shouted back, picking up his schoolbag and before his parents could act, he rushed out of the house. He ran and ran till his stamina ran out. Looking around, he thought he had reached a good distance from his house since he had no idea where he was. For the first time since his childhood, Alan breathed a sigh of relief. He was free and could do whatever he  wanted. As a smile crept onto his face, he started thinking what he should do. Soon, he had a plan in mind and he took out his wallet and from it, a few notes. He had just celebrated his tenth birthday a week ag...

Limericks

To the people looking for something fun to read, here are some of the limericks I have written. More will be added soon. Until then, enjoy! There was once a man who lived in Kentucky, He kept his money under lock and key. He had a son named Ken, Who ran away to his den, And as for the key- Kentucky. There was once a man who slept a lot, One day he woke up feeling hot, He looked around, And cried at what he found, For he was in a cooking pot. -Anumeya Sehgal

Poem - My Favourite Book

This is a poem I wrote about a boy who gave away a memory, in the form of a book, to another to give that person joy like it had once given him. He gives away a memory close to his heart in the hope of helping out a person who is facing an adversity.  In the time of lockdown, There is nothing to do, The only way to travel, Is by means of a book. Going through the books, That have lain on the shelf. From a time long gone, I remember my friend. I flip through the book, And remember my childhood. I remember the time, When I was hooked. I travel the world, By the means of words. I rediscover the joy, That I had known. I wake up and see, The crisis around me, The people in darkness, The people in pain. I did what I had to, I parted with it. My favourite book, Was mine no more. I gave it to one, Who needed it more, My book is now, Not mine anymore. It belongs to one, Who needed it more, One who suffers, From SARS-CoV-2. It gave me the joy, It is now with one, who needed it more, It is hi...

Poem - Newton's Apple

This is a short poem I wrote for a physics- poem writing competition. The poem is about the infamous "Newton's Apple" from the apocryphal story wherein an apple fell on Sir Newton's head leading him to propose the theory of gravity.   I am an apple, Just an ordinary one, I was made famous,  By Sir Isaac Newton.  As a young appling,  I dreamt to touch the sky,  But try as I might,  I just couldn’t fly.  Hanging on my branch all day long,  I gained weight and grew stronger,  Then one day my branch said,  “I can’t hold you any longer!”  On that fateful day,  I tried to fly away,  But some force pulled me down,  And Sir Newton was in town.  The gravity of it all,  Struck me during the fall.  I fell on his head,  But he seemed pleased instead.  Sir Newton ran home,  Saying gravity is the force,  And from that day on,  I have been known by all. -Anumeya Sehgal
